Huddles and standups
Audio sessions, invitations, sharing and the difference between unrecorded huddles and recorded standups.
A huddle is an audio session alongside your work. Its dock stays available while you navigate. A standup opens a dedicated session with recording and transcription signals. The distinction matters before you join.
| Control or state | Meaning | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Huddle in a channel header | Start an audio session | Requires permission to start |
| Join | Join a live huddle | Requires access and an available place |
| Accept or Decline | Answer an incoming ring | An unanswered ring normally expires after 30 seconds |
| Mute or Unmute | Change your microphone state | Browser permission and host restrictions still apply |
| Audio settings | Microphone, speaker and device checks | A speaker picker depends on browser support |
| Participant faces | People in the session | Opens the participant list |
| Add people | Ring additional people | Appears only with invitation permission |
| Share your screen | Choose browser screen capture | The browser chooser determines the shared content |
| Stop sharing | End your screen capture | Leaving also ends your participation |
| Leave | Leave the session | Does not mean everybody else left |
Recording and records
A huddle states: nothing here records or transcribes participants’ speech. Its conversation card can record session activity, such as an ended session. That is not an audio recording or transcript.
A standup explicitly says Join — recorded and transcribed. Its session shows a recording signal and live captions. Joining that session has different recording consequences from joining a huddle.
The standup’s Record destination is not an available recording-retrieval workflow. Live captions do not establish that a finished recording or transcript has a destination you can open later. Huddle-to-meeting promotion is unavailable.
Devices and sharing
Audio settings include microphone permission, device selection and available test controls. Browser support determines whether the speaker picker appears. Webcam capture is not part of these sessions.
Screen sharing sends the selected screen, window or tab. It does not grant access to underlying documents. Sharing a live application surface is not an available substitute for screen capture.
