Work in a surface backed by an external tool

Work with a GitHub-backed pull request and verify the result.

What you'll have

A checked GitHub pull-request result.

For connected GitHub work, the external repository and pull request remain authoritative. You need access to the channel and to the repository through the installed GitHub Apps.

  1. Open the pull request from its channel link or card. Check the repository and pull-request number before acting.

Result The pull request opens in Review, with the repository and current pull-request details.

  2. Read the diff, checks and review state. If the head changed or the view reports an out-of-date result, reload the pull request.

Result You can assess the current change rather than rely on an earlier response.

  3. For a review comment, approval, request for changes or merge decision, open the pull request in GitHub through its GitHub link. Perform the action there and verify the resulting state in GitHub. Those decisions take place in GitHub.

Result You can confirm whether the action changed the GitHub record or encountered a refusal.

  4. If this doesn't work

If the repository cannot load, ask an administrator to check the GitHub installation’s account and selected repositories. If an action fails, inspect the reason and the repository’s rules. You can open the pull request directly in GitHub while the connection is unavailable. This procedure doesn’t connect other external tools or switch a surface’s provider.

The GitHub record shows the confirmed result. The application caches review responses briefly; a previously displayed state is not a guarantee about the current head.
