# Create and share a document

Create a linked document in a channel, add content and copy its link for people who already have access.

1. <p>Open the channel and select <strong>Docs</strong>. Open the document from which you want
to link the new page. Choose <strong>Edit</strong> in <strong>Editing mode</strong> if you have editing
access.</p>
 (Result: The channel document opens in the editor.)


1. <p>Type <code>/</code> and choose <strong>New linked document</strong>. Wait for the creation confirmation.</p>
 (Result: The new document exists in the channel.)


1. <p>Type <code>/</code> again. Choose the new document under <strong>Linked documents</strong>, then
follow the inserted link. Creation and inserting its link are separate actions.</p>
 (Result: The parent document contains a link to the new document.)


1. <p>Write the content. Type <code>/</code> to insert headings, lists, callouts or code blocks.
In an empty document, <strong>Start from</strong> offers a design outline, meeting notes
or a decision record. Replace the template prompts with your own text.
For an image, choose <strong>Image</strong> in a saved document and add <strong>Alt text</strong>.</p>
 (Result: The document contains your text and chosen blocks.)


1. <p>Open <strong>Share</strong> and choose <strong>Copy link</strong>. Wait for <strong>Link copied</strong>.</p>
 (Result: The document link is on your clipboard.)


1. <p>Send the link to someone who already has access. <strong>Share</strong> reports existing
access; copying a link does not invite someone or grant a new permission.</p>
 (Result: A reader with access can open the document from the link.)


- **If this doesn't work:** <p>If <strong>New linked document</strong> fails, stay in the parent document and check your
editing access. If creation succeeds but no link appears, type <code>/</code> and select
the new entry before creating another copy.</p>
<p>If the recipient cannot open the document, ask a workspace administrator to
check their access. <strong>Share</strong> cannot grant access to a named person.</p>





The parent now links to the new document. Its copied link opens the same
document for readers with access.
