Create and share a document

Create a linked document in a channel, add content and copy its link for people who already have access.

What you'll have

A new document linked from its parent, with a shareable link.

Prerequisites

  • A channel with Docs available and an existing document you can edit.
  1. Open the channel and select Docs. Open the document from which you want to link the new page. Choose Edit in Editing mode if you have editing access.

Result The channel document opens in the editor.

  2. Type / and choose New linked document. Wait for the creation confirmation.

Result The new document exists in the channel.

  3. Type / again. Choose the new document under Linked documents, then follow the inserted link. Creation and inserting its link are separate actions.

Result The parent document contains a link to the new document.

  4. Write the content. Type / to insert headings, lists, callouts or code blocks. In an empty document, Start from offers a design outline, meeting notes or a decision record. Replace the template prompts with your own text. For an image, choose Image in a saved document and add Alt text.

Result The document contains your text and chosen blocks.

  5. Open Share and choose Copy link. Wait for Link copied.

Result The document link is on your clipboard.

  6. Send the link to someone who already has access. Share reports existing access; copying a link does not invite someone or grant a new permission.

Result A reader with access can open the document from the link.

  7. If this doesn't work

If New linked document fails, stay in the parent document and check your editing access. If creation succeeds but no link appears, type / and select the new entry before creating another copy.

If the recipient cannot open the document, ask a workspace administrator to check their access. Share cannot grant access to a named person.

The parent now links to the new document. Its copied link opens the same document for readers with access.
