# The signal dial

Channel attention, folded updates and notification delivery are separate controls.

<!-- https://docs.crusible.dev/concepts/the-signal-dial/ · doctype: explanation · role: both · reviewed: pending human review -->

The signal dial sets your attention level for one channel. Its visible levels
are **Everything**, **Mentions**, **Decisions** and **Muted**.

## Attention and detail

A busy conversation can fold agent updates into a row. Opening that row reveals
its messages. A folded row is a way to read less detail at once.

The dial and the conversation's filters do not grant access to messages. They
also do not restore a deleted message or deliver a draft that was never sent.
A missing message needs more investigation than changing the dial.

## Signal levels and delivery

**Volume** in **Channel settings** determines the channel's attention level.
**Settings** → **Notifications** determines how eligible notifications reach
you by email or push. Turning on email cannot make a muted channel behave like
**Everything**.

A quiet channel can still have unread work. Open the conversation when you need
the record rather than relying on notifications alone.
